How activity monitoring works
How we monitor, measure, and personalise your pet's activity
Active time for dogs includes:
High movement: fast-paced motion with all paws off the ground, like a gallop
Play: quick, erratic bursts, such as sprints and jumps
Walk: steady, active walking
Low intensity: slow walking or low-level motion
Active time for cats includes:
High movement: running with paws off the ground, or playful bursts with sprints and jumps
Walk: walking at a moderate pace
Low intensity: low-level motion
Resting time for dogs and cats includes:
Sleep: deep rest or extended stillness
Immobility: the tracker isn't detecting movement
How we collect the data
Tracker's 6-axis gyroscope and accelerometer record every movement your pet makes. A proprietary algorithm then identifies what type of activity each one is.
The algorithm was built with motion experts at the University of Bologna and refined through field tests across dog breeds and sizes, with further tuning via Noldus Observer XT, a research-grade video analysis tool.
How we personalise it
Tracker estimates your pet's total activity from their daily data along with personal factors: breed, weight, age, sex, temperament, and the season.
Here's what you can do with it:
Daily targets: check whether your pet has hit their personalized activity goal — one tuned to keep them physically and mentally well
Activity gauge: see your pet's total activity at a glance in the Activity section
Comparison: compare your pet's daily numbers against the average for pets of similar breed and habits
Similar pets: see how your pet measures up against others with a similar weight, age, and breed in the PetLink community
Time breakdown: see when your pet is active, split between day and night hours
Activity History
View the history of your pet's daily activities
Each day, you can check whether your pet is having a high, moderate, or low activity day, based on their personalised daily goals.
The activity screen shows:
Active: time spent active, against your pet's daily goal
Resting: time spent asleep or still, against your pet's daily goal
Steps: total steps taken, against your pet's daily goal
Calories: calories burned, against your pet's daily goal
Tap any card to see an hourly breakdown for that activity, and tap "Compare with similar pets" to see how your pet measures up against pets of a similar weight, age, and breed.
